Why Visit the Gardens

An Outing for Family and Friends...

There are nine different gardens, something for everyone - rockeries, perennial borders, deciduous azalea beds, 'forests', succulents and everything between.  Scattered throughout are rhododendrons, a species that thrives in this climate.

The differing gardens seamlessly merge from one to another; each contained yet still connected to its neighbour.  Where possible, the gardens have the magnificent backdrop of the Otago Peninsula, always there but always different.

With so much to explore within the gardens and grounds of Larnach Castle, many visitors take an hour or more using the colour gardens and grounds map, take a refreshment break in our Ballroom Cafe, then continue with the Native Plant Trail.   Some visitors take a second tour of the garden before leaving, and have commented on the additional features and themes that they have picked up after a second look.
