The Barker Family's lifelong passion project
The Barker Family’s lifelong passion project of restoring the Castle continues today.
The best time to complete restoration work is in the wintertime, and we have a couple of exciting projects on the go now.
- Externally, there are repairs on the roof of the tower and south bedroom (Constance’s Boudoir), so there is scaffolding up to allow us to undertake this work. We will also be taking the opportunity to do stone pointing and painting.
- Internally, we will also be restoring some of our beautiful wood floors. So please aware there will be a couple of rooms that you won’t be able to go into, but there will be viewing opportunities in place, as health and safety allows, for you to see first hand how we go about work like this.
This is a unique opportunity for our guests to see our restoration efforts in action, and we invite you to come see it!
We understand that these activities might inconvenience some, and we kindly ask for your patience and understanding. If you have any concerns, please speak to the Duty Manager.
Back foyer nearing completion
Our team of crafts people have been diligently working on our back foyer (pictured above), which is now is almost complete.
We've installed gorgeous new tiles that reflect the original design by William Larnach. We also continue illuminate features to showcase the hidden aspects of the Castle, with new glass and lighting revealing the stone and servant bell system.
And lastly, two pieces of matching antique furniture are now placed in the foyer, including a chair recently returned to our collection of original William Larnach pieces.
